Our history

Established in 1966, Chong Wah Plastics Sdn Bhd has become a trusted name in the flexible packaging industry in Malaysia.

OUR FOUNDER

Mr Wee Hong Im (1938-2017)
  • Mr Wee Hong Im, a graduate in Chinese Literature from Nanyang University, Singapore (Nantah) was a visionary leader with a deep sense of responsibility.
  • In 1966, entrusted by a group of investors who had shared a first-prize lottery win, he was tasked with managing their new wealth through meaningful and sustainable investments.
  • With foresight and sound judgment, Mr Wee took over a small plastic company and nurtured it with care and determination. Together with a group of pioneering and dedicated employees, he led the company to grow from strength to strength, leaving behind a lasting legacy that continues to shape the company today.

1966

Humble Beginnings
  • Operations begin at a small factory in Jalan Meru, Klang.
  • The first production line includes a film extruder, three-colour printer, bag-making machine, and custom perforator.
  • Initial products: plastic packaging for Standard Malaysian Rubber (SMR), supplied via Malaysian Rubber Research Institute (RRI).

1970-1975

Steady Growth & Expansion
  • Demand for SMR plastics increases hence the company invests in advanced machinery.
  • Begins serving the fast-moving consumer goods (FMCG) sector with flexible packaging.
  • In 1972, formed Foam Packaging Industries to diversify into foam and entered into the electrical and electronics packaging market.
  • In 1975, Fiman Plastics Industries is established, focusing on injection, and blow-moulded packaging.

1999

International Collaboration
  • Joint venture with Northern Technology International Corporation (NTIC) in US leads to the formation of Chong Wah-NTIA Sdn Bhd.
  • Expanded into corrosion management solutions: packaging, coatings, and systems.
